Sample Home Pages

Help CESL by taking this quick tour of possible homepages. Then vote for the ones you like. In each set is a homepage (first) and a sample faculty directory (interior page). Which set do you think is best? Why? Send your answers to Sharon Svec. Thanks!

student opportunity

CESL Today is the student-produced newsletter here at CESL; it consists of things almost entirely written by students. Take a look at it. It requires some arduous html, but, it's not impossible; it's good practice for someone learning basic coding. Want to try? I'll pass along the files. As you can see, I'm a couple of terms behind...working on v59 now; students just created v60. As we march through time, maybe we can incorporate some nice design features. Want to try? contact me! -Tom Leverett

Help CESL

There are many other ways you can help CESL after you finish your studies here:

1) Post on the CESL Alumni weblog. Let us know what you are doing now and how you are using the English you have learned here. Email us if you need help logging on to the weblog.

2) Add yourself to the CESL Alumni Directory. If this link didn't work for you just now, that's because this directory is still in the planning stages. A directory will allow other CESL Alumni to contact you and help you find contact information for your CESL friends.

3) Be a Friend of CESL. Friends may be asked to hand out brochures, speak to people in their country and/or in their native language, or tell parents what it's like to live here and go to CESL.

3) Link CESL webpages to yours. Our URL is http://www.siu.edu/~cesl.

4) Allow CESL to link to your webpages. If you want us to link to your webpage, email us your URL address and tell us about your webpage.

5) Tell us how our webpages can better reach your country. Help us find better ways to get information about CESL to you. Please email us your suggestions.

6) Give us your opinions or advice on marketing an IEP in a foreign country. Please complete this survey. If this link didn't work just now, that's because this marketing survey is still in the planning stages. To help plan what we will ask and where and how we will present it, contact Marie or Tom.

7) Help us complete our foreign language home pages. These are now in a laughable form; many have been machine-translated and so provide good amusement for people but not much good language. We cannot afford professional translation, and the problem is that we also need professional html-translators, so we are looking for friends who will just take it upon themselves to clean these up and make them presentable. Here they are:

Spanish - provided for us at the moment by Apply ESL- so it is not a high priority to make our own version. We have, however, started. The purpose of developing our own would be: in case ApplyESL goes away, or, if we get testimonial pages that can link from them.

Chinese - provided for us at the moment by Apply ESL- so it is not a high priority to make our own version. We have, however, started.

Japanese - provided for us at the moment by Apply ESL- so it is not a high priority to make our own version. We have, however, started.

Korean - provided for us at the moment by Apply ESL- so it is not a high priority to make our own version. We have, however, started.

French. Machine translated. Needs to be cleaned up and made accurate.

German. Machine translated. Needs to be cleaned up and made accurate. This one has an application page. I'm not sure what kind of shape it's in, in terms of its language. Can you help?

Italian. Machine translated. Needs to be cleaned up and made accurate.

Portuguese. Machine translated. Needs to be cleaned up and made accurate. Not even in the new template!

Arabic- for this one I have received gif files from a former student who was kind enough to provide the link-words as pictures and have them made for me. I have not been able to put them into a page yet, though. I need help! If you can help, contact me, Tom.

Russian-
Bahasa/Indonesian-
Thai-
Turkish-
-These last ones are still in the "dream" stage!

7) Make a testimonial about how CESL improved your English. These testimonials may be in English or may be in your language.
